Position Overview
The Information Technology Department at The University of Kansas is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of IT Finance Operations. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing the financial operations, budget planning, and strategic financial initiatives within the IT department. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of financial expertise, strategic thinking, a deep understanding of the higher education landscape, and proven leadership in managing a team. As part of the CIO’s leadership team, the person in this position will actively participate in the development and execution of the IT strategic plan. Job Description
50% – Financial Management & Team Leadership:
- Develop and manage the annual IT department budget in collaboration with department heads and leadership.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget, providing insights and recommendations for optimization.
- Ensure compliance with university financial policies and procedures.
- Conduct financial forecasting and scenario analysis to anticipate future financial needs and challenges.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for IT leadership and university stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor a team of financial analysts, warehouse personnel, etc.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the finance department.
- Provide guidance on professional development and training opportunities for team members.
30% – Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with KU IT leadership to align financial strategies with departmental and institutional goals.
- Develop long-term financial plans to support KU IT’s strategic initiatives.
- Provide financial insights to guide decision making on resource allocation and projects.
15% – Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with university finance departments to ensure alignment with overall financial strategies.
- Communicate financial information and strategies effectively to diverse stakeholders, including non-financial audiences.
- Work closely with peer directors to understand their budgetary needs and goals.
5% – Other duties as assigned.
