ABOUT FLS

Fitzroy Legal Service (FLS) is dedicated to assisting the most marginalised members of the community with legal information, advice and representation, as well as championing law reform and conducting public interest litigation.

Fitzroy Legal Service provides legal services for communities who are disproportionately impacted by law and policy, and those who face systemic barriers to accessing justice. We provide various multidisciplinary outreach programs reaching communities of colour, people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, LGBTIQA+ communities and people who use drugs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will make a difference by:

  • Leading and managing an inter-disciplinary team providing operational support to the organisation, including operations, finance, people and culture, communications and fundraising, intake and office administration.
  • Assisting the CEO with strategic planning and developing relationships with key stakeholders to deliver FLS’s strategy.
  • Overseeing the business operations, including procurement and contract management, insurance, invoicing, administrative support, events and more.
  • Supporting the Board’s governance function and carrying out the role of Secretary as well as providing direction, advice and support to the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee.
  • Overseeing the delivery of strategic projects and programs.
  • Provide guidance around risk, including maintaining a risk register and oversee compliance obligations. Together with other members of the Management Team, manage organisational risk.

If you have experience in finance, you will lead and manage FLS’s finance function. If not, you will oversee the finance function with the assistance of a Finance Manager.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in the role you will ideally have:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and the values, purpose and mission of Fitzroy Legal Service
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team of staff with a range of different technical expertise
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills, with the ability to play a key role in developing the strategic direction of an organisation
  • High-level interpersonal, relationship-building and negotiation skills and an ability to work through conflict
  • Significant project management experience
  • Advanced communication skills and the ability to produce high quality written and verbal reports
  • Demonstrated high-level of cultural competence and familiarity with all aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion, and provision of a culturally and psychologically safe workplace

For Director of Finance and Operations:

  • CPA or CA
  • Experience leading and managing a finance function, including delivering monthly, quarterly and annual reports and analysis, audit, legal compliance, and budget development, ideally in a not-for-profit organisation
  • Experience managing the financial aspects of multi-year grants
  • Demonstrated skills in improving finance processes and systems, and a commitment to continuous improvement
