Job Purpose:

The Director of Partnerships is a new leadership position within the Global Partnerships and Development function and will be instrumental in the expansion and diversification of Vital Strategies funding portfolio. Working across program areas and global offices, this role will be responsible for designing and implementing strategy to cultivate, solicit, and maintain close partnerships with foundation and corporate funding partners.  The Director of Partnerships will both strengthen and expand partnerships with existing funders through multi-level donor stewardship and will identify and grow partnerships with new foundation and corporate funders.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the global health funding landscape and be a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a proven track record in securing significant funding from foundation and/or corporate sources. They will possess a strategic mindset and the ability to translate organizational goals into actionable fundraising strategies. Beyond fundraising and relationship building expertise, we are seeking a collaborative and agile leader, adept at forging relationships across departments and rallying stakeholders around shared goals and objectives.

This is a  full-time position based in either our New York office (where a hybrid, 2-day-per-week office schedule is in place) or fully remote in the US or UK. We offer highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $152,000 USD, or 100K to 120K GBP. The candidate must have authorization to work legally in the US or UK at the time of hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy and Revenue Diversification – 

  • Develop and own organization-wide strategy for pursuit of funding from foundation and corporate partners
  • Lead efforts, in collaboration with program colleagues, to expand existing funding partnerships resulting in increased renewals rates and expanded scope and funding levels
  • Identify prospects and develop and implement targeted prospecting plans to identify and cultivate new foundation and corporate partnerships leveraging research, data analysis, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with program colleagues to design new pitches and ensure alignment between funding partner priorities and Vital Strategies capabilities
  • Identify and drive opportunities to secure unrestricted funding for the organization
  • Manage proposals to foundation and corporate partners and/or collaborate with assigned proposal manager

Donor Stewardship and Relationship Management – 

  • Map aligned funders and relationships (internal and external)
  • Develop an org-wide process for coordination of relationships with major global funders including assigning account leads to coordinate donor engagement and stewardship
  • Develop and roll-out global donor stewardship process for existing donors including a regular cadence for donor outreach (for existing and prospective funding partners)
  • In collaboration with the SVP, Partnerships and Development, engage Vital Strategies CEO, the board of trustees and other executive leadership to strengthen relationships with existing foundation and corporate funders and to build new relationships

Other – 

  • Track and report on fundraising metrics for foundation and corporate funding partners
  • Develop pitch decks and written pitches
  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in philanthropy and foundation and corporate giving, and proactively adapt strategies to maximize effectiveness and impact
  • Represent Vital Strategies at events, meetings, and other networking opportunities to promote partnership opportunities and build awareness of the organization’s mission and impact.

Qualifications

Education and Degree –

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Skills and Abilities –

  • Deep expertise in building and expanding diverse fundraising revenue streams and donor relationships across corporate and foundation partners
  • Established relationships with corporate donors and key decision makers at large foundations in the global health space preferred.
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a creative, entrepreneurial leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives with a passion for connecting people with mission-driven programs.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize diverse sources of information to identify current and emerging funding and technical trends.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain functional, valuable, and productive relationships, both internally with senior leadership and key technical staff, and externally with current and prospective donors and partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience:

Required –

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive professional experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in institutional fundraising, including extensive experience in a leadership position securing corporate and/or foundation funds directly.
  • Global public health experience
  • Experience with strategy creation and execution.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 10-20%
