The College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland
seeks an experienced and strategic Director of Stewardship and
Donor Communications to be a thoughtful and strategic partner in
the office of development. This position collaborates with 14
academic units and several key centers and institutes to lead
administration, auditing and stewardship of more than 300 endowed
and current use funds. Directing the process, procedures and tools
that enable a structure encouraging best practices and consistency
in donor communications throughout the year (segmented by donor
interest and giving levels), the director’s activities will include
– but not be limited to – managing the acknowledgement process;
producing high-level reports for our most generous donors;
developing high-level correspondence and touch points from the
dean; producing targeted specialized stewardship and cultivation
events; and supporting the Assistant Dean of Development in
managing volunteer advisory groups associated with the dean’s
office. The director manages a stewardship coordinator who supports
the implementation of activities and strategies, and also
collaborates with college development staff and central development
colleagues. Essential qualifications and skills of the position
include: excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge
of the donor gift agreement process, as well as the tracking of
spendable income associated with endowed funds; a proven strategic
leader who understands a donor-centric fundraising program.
