The MIT Office of the Arts seeks a director to
represent MIT in recruitment, constituent relationships, and events
that build membership in the annual giving leadership and advisory
group of 70 to 100 individual supporters who make an annual
expendable donation to the arts at MIT of $5000 (up to
$100,000).

 

We seek a proven leader who takes initiative and can work
collaboratively within a complex university and alumni
network.  The director will identify, cultivate, solicit, and
build relationships with donors and create and implement strategic
stewardship programs that educate members about the arts at MIT;
collaborate on preparing, implementing, and documenting
activities/outreach/programs, including grants, arts access,
student awards, and the Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT;
and serve as a principal liaison/contact with the Alumni
Association, Resource Development, other MIT arts units, volunteer
chair of the council, the executive committee, and council members
around the country and abroad.

Required Qualifications:  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four years’ annual giving fundraising experience, preferably in
    resource development/alumni relations in higher education,
    non-profit board management, or equivalent setting
  • One year of experience conducting donor solicitations and
    stewardship
  • Ability to build long-term relationships and make a compelling
    case for supporting the arts at MIT
  • Programming experience at a decision-making level
  • Experience project managing complex, high-profile fundraising
    events
  • Excellent strategic, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal
    and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with development writing and executive
    style/tone
  • Ability to create content quickly
  • Tact and diplomacy with confidential information and when
    working with a variety of constituencies
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based
    environment and manage multiple and concurrent priorities
