The Salvation Army, Charlotte Area Command,
seeks an experienced Director of Program Services to assume primary
responsibility for all human and social service programs within
Mecklenburg and Union Counties.  Specific areas of
responsibility include behavioral health, shelter and housing,
social work/services, residential childcare, health services, food
services and evaluation/reporting functions.  The position has
nine direct reports and supervises/trains/ motivates an overall
program staff of 100+ social service professionals.  The
Director of Program Services reports directly to the Area
Commanders and is a member of the senior leadership team.

 

The Salvation Army Charlotte Area Command has an annual
operating budget of some $21 million, 180+ employees and includes
two Corps Worship Centers, two residential homeless shelters (1,300
beds), various residential units, eight Boys & Girls Clubs, an
Emergency Disaster hub and a Christmas assistance center, all
within the two-county footprint (serving some 23,000 in 2022).

 

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • A master’s degree in social work or similar field of study from
    an accredited institution;
  • A minimum of five to seven years of progressive social
    services/management experiences in a similar non-profit
    organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a comprehensive human/social
    services operation;
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and understand community needs
    and resources;
  • Demonstrated ability to administer, lead, train and supervise
    programmatic staff;
  • Ability to communicate program success measurements with
    community leaders, volunteers and funders;
  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with people
    (media/volunteers/funders);
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team network and environment
    with strong organizational, engagement and planning skills;
  • Self-motivation and goal-oriented skills; and
  • Current or previous work/volunteer experience within The
    Salvation Army or other faith-based networks is preferred but not
    required.
