Overview
The Director South & Central Asia is accountable and responsible, with requisite authority for CIFOR-ICRAF’s work in the South and Central Asia region with additional role of India Country Director.
The Director is expected to do regional coordination, fundraising and partnership development, country coordination, representation and outreach, active engagement in research and projects development.
Duties and responsibilities
Director South & Central Asia function:
Oversight and support to Engagement Landscapes, CIFOR-ICRAF country teams and CIFOR-ICRAF regional outreach and partnerships;
Leading engagement with relevant integration and development bodies through designated country convenors where necessary;
Ensuring coordination among country and project offices, and relevant programs of CIFOR-ICRAF in the region;
Liaising with Director, South-East Asia and other Directors to ensure stronger inter-regional networking, collaboration and learning;
Advise the CIFOR-ICRAF leadership team on appropriate policies, investments and courses of action to ensure that we are performing to the expectations of our partners and are fulfilling the goals set out in the CIFOR-ICRAF Strategy.
India Country Director function:
Responsible for the overall country program and associated program, its research mandate and outreach for implementing the agroforestry and system approach;
Manage inclusive partnerships and collaboration with various stakeholders, implementing ICAR-ICRAF and other NARS collaborative work plans, and contributing to establishing and successfully implementing Engagement Landscapes and Transformative Partnership Platforms;
Coordinate and collaborate with other regional programs, CIFOR-ICRAF themes, collaborate closely with the other country programs within Asia, and promote joint work between larger CIFOR-ICRAF teams;
Support to new, adjacent and promising initiatives.
Fundraising:
Leading actively resource mobilization and cooperating with other units to submit joint funding proposals to meet growth targets. Leading/co-leading agroecosystems, sustainable value chains, finance and investment, green economic transition, and related forestry-agroforestry research under the CIFOR-ICRAF research program in India;
Contributing actively to fund raising, visibility and impact of CIFOR-ICRAF by ensuring that information about our contributions, partnerships and impacts is effectively communicated to our key partners, investors and stakeholders.
Active engagement in research and development projects:
Participating, communicating, and sharing related research and science with CIFOR-ICRAF global, including Transformative Partnership Platforms, Engagement Landscapes, and Flagship Products and outside the institution.
Education, knowledge and experience
PhD or equivalent in Agroforestry, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Socio Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture or other related fields including earth sciences, socio-ecological sciences, anthropology, etc.;
More than fifteen years of relevant work experience in international multidisciplinary team;
Up to ten years hands-on field experience in managing interdisciplinary programmes and multi-disciplinary staff and projects focusing on the rural poor, sustainable agroecosystems, agroecology, ideally with experience of working with CGIAR or international organizations;
Strong scientific track record of publication in international, peer reviewed journals;
Demonstrated success experiences in fund raising from national and international donor agency;
Demonstrated success experiences in making research impacts that are nationally and internationally recognized;
Experience in designing and implementing multi-institutional programmes and projects across the continents and countries;
Demonstrated success experiences in engaging and involving mass media, social media, newspapers, magazines in communicating research results to public at local, national and international levels;
Exposure to working in with national program, state Governments, development agencies, large NGOs, private sector and other players in the area of agroforestry/ trees outside forests to ensure convergence and leveraging resources.
