The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally
chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US
Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of
the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the
history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate
Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as
international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise:
Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and
genocide prevention.

Information about the role

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is seeking an experienced
fundraising professional to serve as its Southeast Regional
Director, based in Florida. The Southeast Region generates between
$2.5 and $5 million annually in private philanthropic support for
the Museum, including annual, capital, and endowment funds.

The Regional Director drives and oversees fundraising
initiatives in key communities in Florida, and seeks out targeted
opportunities to expand the Museum’s base of support in Alabama,
Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and
Texas.

This is a full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the
Museum’s private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.

This position is located in Boca Raton, Florida and is hybrid
telework eligible, within the Southeast Florida geographical
region.

Duties, and Responsibilities for the role

  • Leads efforts to implement and sustain a statewide major gift
    philanthropy program in Florida, with a focus on building
    relationships with high net worth supporters.
  • Solicits major gifts, with a focus on six-figure and larger
    multi-year and outright gifts.
  • Manages and ensures the success of major Florida-based
    fundraising events, including an annual dinner, parlor meetings and
    other events, which generate over $1 million
    annually.
  • Serves as the Museum’s most senior Florida-based professional
    and plays a critical role in the Museum’s national strategy to
    engage donors who live in Florida on a seasonal basis by marshaling
    the efforts of the Museum’s major gift officers based in other
    parts of the country. Works collaboratively to follow up with
    donors in their home and/or second home communities.
  • Manages a portfolio of 125-150 prospects, and within two years,
    is expected to successfully reach and sustain a personal annual
    fundraising goal in excess of $2 million via a high-touch,
    relationship-based major gifts fundraising approach.
  • Supervises a full-time Development Operations Manager and
    partners with and shares management oversight for a Washington,
    DC-based major gifts officer who is tasked with spending a
    significant amount of time cultivating and soliciting donors in
    Florida and other communities in the Southeast.

Minimum Qualifications for the role

  • At least 10 years of successful experience as a major gift
    fundraiser, with a proven track record of personally soliciting and
    closing six-figure and higher annual, capital, and endowment fund
    gifts.
  • Significant major gift experience in a sophisticated, complex
    environment (e.g., large cultural or educational
    organization).
  • A strategist with experience managing people and
    relationships.
  • Ambitious and bottom-line driven with the ability to reach
    aggressive fundraising goals.
  • Experience in the Florida philanthropic community; knowledge of
    the broader region a plus.
  • Proven ability to devise and execute new fundraising
    strategies, identify new prospect opportunities and cultivate them
    to fruition.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and strong
    interpersonal skills.
  • Entrepreneurial, creative and able to execute on new ideas and
    motivate others to do the same.
  • Proven record as a collaborative team player.
  • A genuine commitment to the values, mission, and ideals of the
    Museum.
  • Experience with budget management and financial spending
    oversight.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace/ MicroSoft Office or similar
    computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with relational fundraising databases is highly
    desirable.
