Director – University Professor at the Malopolska Biotechnology Center (254.2024)

The MCB is seeking a new director to move it forward in the next step of it’s evolution. The new director must be fully dedicated to the institute, believe in its mission and continue to develop the supportive culture and values.

We are seeking applicants with the following profile:

• Distinguished record of international scientific excellence
• Experience in leading in dynamic medium to large organisations that include defining strategic vision, setting priorities, planning implementation  and overseeing resource management
• Outstanding leadership skills that operate at the highest level of integrity, with an ability to communicate at all levels (from junior staff, to university authorities, politicians and international opinion leaders). A capacity to represent the institute and the University on the national and international stages.
• Demonstrated ability to acquire external funding from a diverse range of sources, including traditional project grants, infrastructure funds and more creative funding revenues such as business, investors and philanthropists.
• Exceptional management skills that include team management, visionary ambitions, mentoring and resolving complex situations. Striving for win-win situations and thinking holistically to bring about the best outcomes for the institute and its staff members and the University
• Demonstrated track record of staff development and mentoring.
• Dedicated to the translation of discoveries, when the time is right, to create practical solutions to health challenges, societal and environmental problems.

The director is responsible for the function of the Institute across all levels and needs to represent the interests of the institute and university. The director needs to promote excellence in all aspects of institute life – fostering a creative, innovative and agile organisation.

Duties and responsibilities (but not limited to those below:

• Building a comprehensive strategy to ensure continued excellence in research and culture to secure success in the future
• Financial oversight to ensure appropriate funding and seeking new funding sources
• Develop staff and build strong leadership skills within MCB at all levels
• Spotting opportunities and enabling translation of research to applications and products
• Organising, directing and ensuring organisational excellence
• Promoting strategic collaborations to enhance the reputation of MCB and UJ with a particular focus on increasing collaborations with medical researchers
• Responsibility for appointment of key personnel at MCB, including group leaders
• Working to the highest professional and ethical standards as well as training and supporting staff to ensure proper behaviour and compliance with work practices and standards
• Reporting to the Vice-Rector for Research at UJ and other university committees in a regular manner and representing MCB on various university committees
• Preparing and hosting an annual scientific advisory board meeting, presenting progress to the board and acting on advice from the board
