An exciting opportunity has become available as Student Welfare and Support Services has a Disability Advisor (Mental Health/General) vacancy currently available within The Disability Advisory Service;

Disability Advisor (Mental Health/General)– permanent – full time

Grade 7: The salary scale is £36,024 – £44,263 per annum. You will receive £36,024 the scale minimum. Progress to the scale maximum will be via incremental progression, where applicable

About the Role

This is a key role within the department and provides the opportunity to work within a busy, committed and friendly student-orientated team within a demanding learning environment.

The Disability Advisory Service is part of Student Welfare and Support Services and provide specialist services to students and support and guidance to colleges and departments on a wide range of disability issues.

The Disability Advisor (Mental Health/General) will manage a large caseload of often complex student work, conducting initial assessments and providing individually tailored, one-to-one advice and guidance to help students (any other staff working with them) address the barriers to learning experienced as a result of their disability.

This is a permanent post available on a full-time basis and will involve a hybrid working pattern with some onsite and some remote/online working

About You

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

•       Substantial experience of supporting disabled people.  Knowledge of a wide range of disabilities and confidence to work with students with multiple and complex problems. 

•       Substantial experience of supporting individuals with mental health difficulties and/or Autism.  In-depth knowledge of a wide range of mental health conditions and confidence to work with students with multiple and complex problems.

•       Understanding of the particular demands of a University (or similar) environment in respect of disabled students. 

•       Strong administration and communication skills, and the ability to make/recommend arrangements to support individual students across a wide curriculum.
