This volunteering opportunity is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia in the framework of the initiative launched in partnership with UNV in December 2023 to foster youth and disability inclusion through meaningful and impactful volunteering assignments with the United Nations between 2024 and 2026.
The UNIDO Office in Tunisia is seeking a UN Volunteer to contribute to its mission of promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in the country. The volunteer will work closely with government entities and development partners to align UNIDO initiatives with national strategies and donor priorities. Responsibilities include representing UNIDO at various forums, delivering technical assistance, monitoring project outcomes, and managing resources effectively. The volunteer will also play a vital role in preparing reports and business plans, ensuring a systematic approach to service delivery. This assignment provides a unique opportunity for the UN Volunteer to make a meaningful contribution to industrial growth in Tunisia while gaining valuable experience in international development with UNIDO.
a. Exposed to the regular core functions of the Field Office Tunisia and as such shall have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day operations and engage in on-the-job training in specific actions delegated by the Supervisor.
b. Engaged in a specific self-contained assignment described below:
1. Supporting representation, communication, and engagement:
– Assist in representing UNIDO at the country level and maintaining relations with stakeholders and development partners.
– Contribute to identifying and assessing local needs and donor priorities.
– Assist in integrating inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) into the work of the United Nations Development System (UNDS).
2. Assisting in the delivery of Technical Assistance:
– Assist in the preparation, appraisal, and implementation of projects and programs.
– Contribute to UNIDO’s technical cooperation (TC) activities in Tunisia.
3. Assisting in monitoring and reporting:
– Assist in supervision of Tunisia UNIDO’s technical cooperation (TC) activities at the ground level.
– Assist in preparing and submitting progress reports, business plans, and other reports UNIDO’s County Office.
4. Research and Analysis:
– Contribute the research and analysis related to industrial development, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability.
– Contribute to the preparation and updating of country and industry profiles.
– Support in analyzing the alignment of UNIDO initiatives with national and donor priorities.
5. Administrative Support:
– Provide administrative support to the UNIDO Country Representative and the Office staff as needed.
– Assist in coordinating and organizing events and meetings related to UNIDO’s activities in Tunisia.
6. Capacity Building:
– Learn about the organization’s core functions, policies, and procedures.
7. Documentation and Record-keeping:
– Assist in maintaining records, documentation, and databases related to UNIDO’s activities in Tunisia.
– Help in organizing and archiving relevant information and reports.
– Collaboration and Networking
– Collaborate with colleagues within the UNIDO Country Office to support programmatic activities.
8. Collaboration and Networking:

– Establish and maintain relationships with local stakeholders and partners.
Under the direct supervision of the UNIDO Country Representative, the UN Volunteer will contribute to:
– Representing UNIDO and fostering relationships with stakeholders to advance inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
– Identifying local needs and donor priorities to align UNIDO’s efforts effectively.
– Ensuring UNIDO initiatives are in harmony with national strategies, donor priorities, and UN frameworks.
– Collaborating with the UN Country Team to integrate ISID into broader UN development endeavors.
– Participating in global forums and organizing UNIDO events at the country level.
– Monitoring industrial performance and updating country profiles.
– Supporting the development and implementation of regional/country grouping strategies and programs.
– Assisting in project identification, preparation, and monitoring.
– Overseeing technical cooperation activities and contributing to progress reports.
– Preparing and submitting business plans and reports.
– Managing resources at the Field Office and upholding safety and security measures.
