Learning areas

As an intern in the YOUTH team, you will be exposed to and gain experience on the following issues:

  • What works to boost employment opportunities of young people;
  • Global employment trends for youth and main research on the topic;
  • Engagement with multiple stakeholders, from the UN system to governments, social partners, young leaders and changemakers, companies;
  • Use of career development, communication, and project management software and tools;
  • Partnership development; and
  • Communication skills and facilitation techniques.

The YOUTH team is diverse and dynamic and delivers through various functions, including project management, research, advocacy & communications, partnership development and knowledge management.

A timebound work plan will be agreed between the incumbent and her/his supervisor in the first month of the assignment. The implementation of the workplan will be supported by regular oneonone weekly meetings between the incumbent and the supervisor as well as weekly meetings with the YOUTH team. The incumbent will also participate in monthly coordination/sharing meetings of EMPLAB.

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required profile

Working under the supervision of the Lead of the YOUTH Group, the intern will carry out the following tasks:

  1. Contribute to the analysis of data emerging from research and other knowledge driven initiatives on youth employment.
  2. Develop data visualization of information emerging from research and other knowledge driven initiatives on youth employment. This duty entails the development of innovative, accessible, userfriendly (particularly youthfriendlrepresentations of information for reports, power points, briefing decks, standalone infographics, brochures, and social media assets. Research and data related initiatives linked to Tasks 1 and 2 include:
    1. The Youth Employment Barometer.
    2. The Youth Employment report for Latin America and the Caribbean (expected to be published in Dec 2024).
    3. Additional infographics emerging from the Global Employment Trends for Youth report of 2024.
    4. Information emerging from the monitoring of commitments to the Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth.
    5. Information emerging from the YouthForesight Knowledge Facility
    6. Data outputs emerging from knowledge activities or Monitoring and Evaluation (M&of development cooperation projects.
  3. Assist and colead the design, launch and deployment of communication products, in collaboration with team members and external collaborators.
  4. Contribute to the planning and/or delivery of different events, such as the Youth Employment Forum, Youth Employment Academy, which represents a unique opportunity to learn about what works in the promotion of youth employment.

Education

  • University degree in data science, statistics, computer science, marketing analytics, information systems, economics, or areas related to communications.
  • The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago

Experience

  • Experience in the data analytics and data visualization.
  • Good knowledge of excel and statistical packages to support data processing and analysis (such as Stata, SPS.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills are necessary.
  • Experience in the use of communication tools, design software (such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, etc.) is desirable.
  • Gaming experience is a plus.
  • Conversant with IT practices and working tools.

Languages

  • Working (both oral and writteknowledge of English. Good knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, hiring departments will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend/Financial compensations:

As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.

Qualified candidates from nonand underrepresented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for roundtrip airfare (economy clasin addition to the stipend.
