Introduction

It works with the ILO’s tripartite constituents (governments, employers’ and workers’ organizationto ensure that its institutions and policies, programs and initiatives are gendersensitive and inclusive of indigenous peoples, LGBTI people, people living with HIV, and people with disabilities.

In particular, with regard to persons with disabilities, the ILO has a Policy (IGDS 590) and a Strategy for Disability Inclusion 202023, currently under review, aligned with the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDI. The ILO seeks to become an employer of choice for people with disabilities by ensuring fully accessible and adapted workplaces, along with a culture that values diversity and inclusion.

Learning areas

At the end of the assignment the intern will have acquired knowledge and experience in:

  1. Diversity and Inclusion and related ILO and UN strategies.
  2. Organization and implementation of actions on diversity and inclusion at the local and international level.
  3. Coordination with colleagues in other countries of the region, at Headquarters and with relevant organizations and counterparts.
  4. Implementation of initiatives that promote the attraction and inclusion of diverse talent.
  5. Work in an international, multicultural organization.

Required profile

The Human Resources (Harea of the ILO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean is looking for an intern to support the design and implementation of diversity and inclusion actions in the Regional Office and in the region, with special emphasis on persons with disabilities for the countries of Peru, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. As a member of the HR team, the intern will provide support to the work of the human resources team regarding Diversity and Inclusion, in coordination with other colleagues in the region and at Headquarters, as well as with networks of organizations, suppliers and facilitators for the development of the required activities.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Human Resources Coordinator, the intern will perform the following support functions in promoting more diverse and inclusive workplaces, such as:

  1. Support the design, implementation and updating of the Diversity and Inclusion Plan for the Latin America and Caribbean region.
  2. Support in the consolidation of the network of organizations for the dissemination of selection processes in the countries of the region, especially in Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.
  3. Support the development of workshops and other activities derived from the implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Plan.
  4. Articulate with the Disability Inclusion team, and other relevant external and internal stakeholders, when necessary, to create synergies that facilitate the achievement of the results of the plan and the activities proposed for the region, in line with ILO strategies.
  5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor´s degree in Administration, Law, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, or related fields.
  • Be enrolled in the last year of a graduate degree (Master or equivalen, or in a higher degree programme relevant to the ILO’s work or have completed such a programme in the year preceding the application is an advantage, but it is not mandatory.

Experience

  • Experience in organizations that promote the development and/or rights of persons with disabilities and/or minority groups is desirable.

Languages

  • Advanced knowledge (both oral and writteof Spanish. Good knowledge of English.

Competencies

  • Adapt to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, good communication and team work skills.
  • Nondiscriminatory behaviour and sensitivity to gender and minority issues.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, field offices will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department or field office within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the fiel.
