Statewide Autistic Services (SASI) is part of the Independence Australia Group (IAG) which is a social enterprise that provides choices for people living with a disability or other personal needs, enabling them to regain and retain their independence within a supportive community.
IAG services and operations include disability and allied health support services, sale of products and mobility equipment and aids to support independent living through its national disruption centre network, retail outlets and local customer service call centre.
The SASI Support Worker supports programs and opportunities for people with autism and complex disabilities living in flexible support and accommodation services for clients in a group homes to ensure an environment free of abuse, harm and exploitation for the clients that the organisation support
We are offering the following:
- $32.21 + 25% casual loading per hour + 11% superannuation
- Generous salary packaging tax benefits (pay up to $6,000 less in taxes every year)

WORKING WITH IA
The role of a Support worker includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Provide active support to clients based on their goals and NDIA plan, implementing all supports within the plan including formal, mainstream and funded supports
- Actively support all aspects of client care and provide supports that maximise independence of clients
- Use a strengths-based approach when working with clients and with behaviours of concern following strategies detailed in Positive Behaviour Support Plans (BSP)
- Build effective relationships with clients and their families while maintaining appropriate and professional boundaries
- Assist clients in undertaking a range of activities of daily living including personal and self-care, eating and maintenance of personal hygiene during program time
- Participate in the assessment, planning and evaluation of client’s needs and programs
- Complete daily Supportability journal notes, reporting documentation and activity profiles as required
- Support and provide clients with opportunities for personal growth and skill development
- Maintain assessments and documentation of client’s progress
- Perform work with professional integrity and ensure the privacy and confidentiality of client and staff information
- Refer client issues and complaints with respect and fairness to your PL whilst following the organisation’s policies and procedures
- Ensure that information on relevant community resources are available to clients and that appropriate referrals are made and followed up
- Active engagement in professional development activities and relevant committees identified through supervision sessions
WORKING WITH YOU
To be successful you will bring the following:
- Previous experience in the disability sector or a related sector including: knowledge of providing client choice and self-directed supports
- Positive interpersonal and computer skills including promoting effective communication
- First Aid Level 2
- Strong interpersonal and team skills and behaviours, incorporating verbal and written communication, flexibility, resilience
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service, with a continuous improvement focus
- Intermediate computer skills
- Minimum Certificate IV in Disability or willing to undertake Certificate IV in Disability with the organisation or equivalent relevant tertiary qualification in, Individual Support, Community Services, or substantial demonstrated experience
