The School Safety Unit of the Ministry of Education and National Reconciliation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Disaster Risk Reduction/Climate Change Teacher Trainers. Over the last two years St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been faced with a range of emergencies which threatened the resilience of the education sector. These experiences, including learning loss in students, increased the need for the Ministry of Education to reduce vulnerability including taking steps towards climate change adaptation, disaster mitigation and reducing disaster risks. Additional support is needed to strengthen the integration capacity of teachers and school administrators through the creation and implementation of a training plan for teachers, in addition to the design of professional development workshops.
The PCRV will collaborate with a team that includes the Senior Education Officer for School Safety, Senior Education Officer for target education zones and school Principals. The team will be responsible for the creation and management of the Climate Change Mitigation & Adaptation-Disaster Risk Reduction (CCMA-DRR) integration and safety culture within the education system. The PCRV will also support the team to conduct pre and post assessment of climate change knowledge, attitudes, values and assimilation.
Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Eastern Caribbean together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
