Full-time District Conservation Technician position available with the Conservation Districts in the Trinidad, CO, NRCS office. Farm and/or ranch experience preferred. Must have basic computer skills and some knowledge of agriculture, surveying, machinery, and/or conservation. Work includes office and field duties. (Vehicle provided for field duties.) Other Qualifications: strong communication and organizational skills; familiarity with Word, Excel, and mapping software (or willingness to learn); ability to work independently and with a team; willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions. Starting $20-25/hour, DOE. Opportunity for pay raise based on performance. More Details:

The District Conservation Technician (DCT) works with the District Manager to oversee cost-share projects with landowners such as fencing, water projects, irrigation pipeline, etc. The DCT also works closely with NRCS staff at the USDA building to do Farmbill activities as well for NRCS EQUIP and other programs. A great deal of time is spent outside working in (mostly) Las Animas county with landowners and producers across two conservation districts–Spanish Peaks-Purgatoire River & Branson-Trinchera CD. Often field work is done with another staff member and in a USDA provided vehicle or the district vehicle. A good rapport with people is essential as great deal of time is spent helping people with agricultural/conservation projects. Many days are split between field and office work. In the office, mapping software is essential to the job. Also files for landowners are kept with photography, measurements, etc. Work hours are somewhat flexible within a 40 hour work week. Most DCTs start earlier in the day and end earlier.

Government background check is required as the DCT has access to the government vehicles, laptop and share drive.

Funding is provided by state or federal grants; however the Conservation District also has funding available if funds fall short. All grant management is done by the District Manager.
