This position may be located at our offices in Spooner, Rhinelander, Antigo, Ladysmith, or Park Falls, Wisconsin. Final headquarters location will be determined at the time of hire, depending on space availability and employee preference. The person hired into this position may request to work up to 60% remotely. 

This position is responsible for the supervision and administration of all aspects of the wildlife management program within the Northern District of Wisconsin. As a member of the Wildlife Management Leadership Team, you’ll assist in setting statewide policy on wildlife management issues. You’ll also supervise professional staff and area wildlife supervisors in their implementation of all wildlife activities within the region.

Qualifications

You need to have the following experience:

  • Development, analysis, and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Performing informal leadership activities (e.g. team building, mentoring, technical guidance, oversight, etc.).
  • Applied wildlife management (e.g. identifying issues and threats to biological diversity, and management actions that will help maintain the biological diversity of the assigned geographic location, etc.). 
  • Communicating and collaborating with others to achieve business objectives.

Any of the following would be nice to have:

  • An earned bachelor’s degree or above in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Habitat Management, Wildlife Research, or closely related field.
  • Direct professional supervisory experience with responsibility for duties such as hiring, dismissing, counseling, and performance management.
  • Experience serving as a technical expert to internal and external stakeholders on wildlife management issues (e.g. presenting at public meetings, providing guidance to local governments or conservation organizations, providing consultation to external partners, or similar).

Travel:  Travel throughout the Northern District, as well as periodic statewide travel for meetings will be required.

Remote work:  Employees with approved remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin.  High-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.
