Position : Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator
Duty Station : Baghdad
Contract Duration : 12 Months
Function prerequisite:
The position requires a person with experience from a mid to senior-level professional with substantial experience in mainstreaming diversity and social inclusion within development programs. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in conducting assessments, delivering technical training, and performing diversity and inclusion analysis and reporting.
The Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator will play a crucial role in effectively managing NPA’s diversity and inclusion initiatives across our program areas. This role involves leading the diversity and inclusion technical unit within the NPA Iraq program and ensuring that our projects are aligned with diversity and inclusion principles and NPA policies.
The Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator should exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective interaction with team members from diverse backgrounds and work styles, both international and national. The coordinator must demonstrate a proven ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and be accountable for results. This includes managing multiple tasks, prioritizing effectively, and maintaining attention to detail while adhering to procedures and meeting deadlines. The role requires a high professional standard of work ethics, along with the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with NPA and donor policies. The ideal candidate should be proactive, creative, and adept at problem-solving.
General Responsibilities:
- Conduct gender assessments for new areas of intervention and make recommendations to management on best inclusive and diversity sensitive approaches
- Conduct regular visits to all project locations to provide technical advice and refresher training for all staff at least once annually
- Provide training and advisory support to Safeguarding Focal Points, HR and Management proactively
- Provide advice on diversity and inclusion text in draft concepts or proposals
- Aid programme management in monitoring adherence to NPA Safeguarding policy
- Lead on activities relevant to the D&I sphere in line with donor proposals and objectives, in close coordination with management (of the area of implementation)
- Work within the framework of NPA’s core values.
- Act as an ambassador for NPA, through professionalism and good conduct.
- Adhere to all NPA policies, regulations and procedures, as well as relevant technical guidance and best practices as developed in the humanitarian sector, such as Protection principles.
- Maintain and care for all equipment issued by NPA and for any loss or damage, the position holder will be liable for repair or replacement.
- Follow all verbal and/or written instructions, unless in direct violation of safety and duty of care.
- Ensure a safe workplace and protect property and equipment from damage.
- Contribute to methodology development.
- Any other task or duty as assigned by the deputy programme manager and programme manager
Specific duties:
- Provide diversity and social inclusion technical support to the country programme, utilizing diversity and inclusion analysis and other mainstreaming tools to ensure diversity and inclusion considerations are integrated into NPA mine action programme.
- Design and deliver diversity and inclusion trainings including inductions and technical training sessions for all NPA staff and stakeholders in Iraq at different organizational levels.
- Lead the safeguarding network across all NPA locations in Iraq, and provide technical support and guidance upon raising of safeguarding concerns
- Establish and oversee a systematic approach for prevention, protection and against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment in the workspace as well as a response system thereto
- Develop diversity and inclusion strategic plans to enhance NPA’s approach of mainstreaming diversity and inclusion, aiming for a sensitive approach programme.
- Lead the community engagement initiative of women’s empowerment in mine action.
- Liaise with diverse stakeholders including national authorities and international and national mine action NGOs and companies to increase community engagement on women empowerment issues.
- Monitor and evaluate field progress on diversity and inclusion results and compliance, and support development of relevant reports and evidence-based proposals that include sex/age/disability disaggregated data analysis
- Contribute to researching, collecting, and sharing information such as case studies and good practices on diversity and inclusion or similar topics.
- Develop and design indicators and technical inputs on mainstreaming diversity and inclusion to new concept notes and proposals.
- Represent NPA in events and initiatives related to diversity and inclusion mainstreaming such as working group meetings, sub-cluster meetings, and coordination meetings among NPA programme countries.
- Suggest strategies to increase inclusive recruitment of diverse groups and contribute to inclusive employment efforts by the organisation
- Any other reasonable tasks, conducive to the safe and efficient running of the programme, as detailed by the DPM or/ and PM
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Required qualifications:
- Practical experience in mainstreaming diversity and inclusion in development, advocacy or humanitarian work.
- Practical experience in Monitoring and Evaluation tools.
- Working knowledge of Iraq, understanding of the social, political, and economic context.
- Sound understanding of project cycle management in international development
- Previous experience in insecure environments, and ability to work effectively under and adapt to difficult conditions.
- Written and verbal proficiency in English and Arabic are required.
- Very good computer skills essential.
- Previous working relations with the national authorities and military forces are an advantage.
Education:
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification, preferably in a field of social sciences
Experience:
Must have:
- At least, Five years’ experience within the humanitarian sector, at least three years of experience in Protection-related programming.
- Very good experience in designing and delivering training sessions, especially related to diversity and inclusion, mainstreaming, and other relevant programmes.
- Experience in project management: planning, implementation, follow up and proven analytical skills are essential.
Desirable:
- Minimum of one-year experience in mine action programmes.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Leadership skills and the ability to make decisions.
- Systematic and organized in approach, with ability to work on own initiative including accuracy, consistency, attention to detail, tenacity and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work calmly under pressure with limited supervision.
- Ability to adapt to difficult and complex conditions and work in remote areas.
