We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Divisional Diagnostic Coordinator for the USAID Tuberculosis Diagnostics Network Strengthening (TBDNS) Activity in Bangladesh. The TBDNS Activity is collaborating with the National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) of Bangladesh, the private sector and other stakeholders to ensure functional, accessible and equitable tuberculosis (TB) diagnostic networks that swiftly detect people with TB and effectively link them to care and treatment across Bangladesh where diagnostic system and equity gaps exist.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Diagnostics Technical Director, the Divisional Diagnostic Coordinator will work closely with the TBDNS technical team to ensure project technical deliverables are implemented in a timely manner. S/he will be responsible for providing technical assistance and systems strengthening interventions at the sub-national level. The work will focus primarily on public health systems but may also include private health and other non-governmental diagnostic facilities (laboratories and point-of-care facilities). The position will be based in divisional level and will involve frequent in-country travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement TB diagnostic-focused technical assistance diagnostic network and facilities strengthening, and quality improvement interventions in line with national priorities.
- Support developing or updating national diagnostic network strategic plans, standard operating procedures, and policies.
- Strengthen sub-national diagnostic facilities’ capacities to adhere to diagnostic algorithms and use of those algorithms to make clinical decisions.
- Conduct assessments of diagnostic facilities and the follow-up of corrective and preventive actions and initiatives.
- Provide technical oversight for data management and reporting of multi-drug resistant TB and monitors and reports progress with diagnostic network enhancement activities as per the approved country workplan.
- Work collaboratively with other technical staff as well as Activity partners on the development and implementation of the project workplans.
- Strengthen the capacity in local TB diagnostic stakeholders and leaders to identify and oversee enhancements in diagnostic networks.
- Provide technical assistance and training to TB diagnostic facilities and the overall diagnostic network as part of overall capacity building and continuous improvement programs.
- Support strategies to ensure functional TB diagnostic equipment including systems to maintain laboratory equipment, securing maintenance contracts, and establishing a cadre of trained biomedical engineers.
- Help TB laboratories to perform more TB diagnostic tests (culture, Xpert, drug sensitivity tests, and line probe assay including resistance to second line drugs).
- Work closely with the TBDNS team to define and adjust annual work plans as well as implementing technical activities.
- Coordinate with a diverse group of national organizations including the Government and other diagnostic network leaders, development partners, other TBDNS staff and USAID.
- Conduct other work as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- A minimum of a BSc in clinical diagnostics or an equivalent with a specialty in microbiology with a strong focus on TB.
- At least four years of direct experience in TB diagnostic network strengthening and laboratory capacity strengthening in the country.
- Demonstrated competency in current diagnostic methods for TB.
- Knowledge and experience with strengthening laboratories to achieve international quality standards.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Experience working in Bangladesh
- Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 50% within Bangladesh and perform other travel as needed.
- Authorization to work in Bangladesh.
