The Domestic Violence Actions Centre (DVAC) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Domestic & Family Violence Specialist (DFVS) to join our Toowoomba Safety team on a part-time basis. This position offers 60 hours per fortnight and is specifically tailored to cover a maternity leave period. The contract will be in effect until January 3rd, 2025, providing a stable and long-term opportunity for the ideal candidate.

DVAC works with individuals and communities to eliminate, prevent, and respond to domestic and family violence, and sexual violence by:

  • Collaboratively providing quality support services
  • Challenging social norms and structures that enable people to use violence/enable the use of violence.
  • Building awareness and capacity within the community, and
  • Encouraging egalitarian relationships.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a DFV Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to provide crucial support to individuals who are experiencing domestic and family violence. This will involve conducting comprehensive case management through both telephone and face-to-face interactions, offering assistance during court proceedings, conducting assessments to evaluate domestic violence risks, and aiding in the development of safety plans. Furthermore, you will have the chance to travel to various regional towns within our catchment area, allowing you to make a positive impact on a broader community. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field
  • Experience and skills in gender-based violence risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, domestic and family violence and sexual violence counselling, system advocacy and case management is preferred
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 Qld
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position
  • Current driver’s license
  • Current Blue Card (working with children check)
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position.
  • Ability to work within the philosophy, objectives and policies of the organisation including: Working within a feminist framework, Working as a member of the staff team & Utilising consultative and collaborative processes
