What you’ll do
As part of the Men’s Family Advocacy and Support Service (FASS), you will play a crucial role in supporting men affected by family violence or facing allegations. You’ll provide compassionate psychosocial, emotional, and practical support, ensuring that they receive the assistance they need to navigate the family law system effectively. FASS offers non-judgmental, drop-in, or short-term support to address social welfare needs, while Legal Aid lawyers handle legal matters.
You will conduct thorough needs and risk assessments, guiding men to essential support services and helping them find their way through the complexities of the legal system. Your services will primarily be delivered in-person at Lismore/Tamworth/Armidale Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) locations, with occasional telehealth support as needed.
The details
- This is an identified position. Being male is a genuine occupational requirement of this position under s31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Full-time contract to 30/6/25 with potential for extension.
- Based in Lismore with some travel to Armidale & Tamworth and other Federal Circuit & Family court locations.
- Valid C Class NSW Drivers license is essential as regular travel is expected.

- Extra annual leave days between Christmas and New Years.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Welfare, Social Science, Psychology, Humanities or equivalent knowledge.
- Experience working with men who are impacted by, or have used violence in their domestic relationships.
- Able to demonstrate impartiality and an unbiased approach when working with men who avoid taking responsibility for their past behaviours.
- Understanding of the intersections between domestic and family violence and the family law system.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, identify short term needs to ensure client, child and family safety.
- Ability to effectively engage with clients in distress, other service providers, lawyers and court employees.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in advocacy and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team effectively.
