Organizational context
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution.
Located within the Division of External Relations, the Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization Service is a small team of passionate fundraisers bringing in and managing 72% of UNHCR’s funds. Within this team, Donor Group III focuses on the relationship management, promote awareness and understanding of the work of UNHCR to a portfolio of high-profile donors.
The position
Given the nature of UNHCR’s work and that of Donor Group I it is essential that its workforce has the right mix of skills and qualities to fulfil its mandate. Donor Group I is looking for an energetic young professional with experience in external relations and reporting, and possibly information management and graphic design.
The selected candidate will support Donor Focal Points in their interaction with governments, provide administrative and reporting support as needed. Desirable is the ability to design and layout various internal and external reports and presentations, which include creating infographics and other data visualization products that will help relay the work of UNHCR in a quick, clear, and engaging manner. The intern will also work closely with the Donor Visibility officer to draft and edit social media posts, social video cuts, and other communication products.
The intern ideally will have an interest in client management, and strong communication and drafting skills in English and possibly Spanish and French. The intern will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment on a highly visible portfolio, have the ability to think critically and strategically, and communicate in a clear concise manner.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Senior Donor Relations Officer to support Donor Group I in meeting its goals.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to gain knowledge, professional experience, and exposure to the work of UNHCR. Through this position you would work across the organization, have contact with country operations and regional bureaus, including those in an emergency, and support UNHCR in achieving its goals in external relations.
Duties and responsibilities
• Support the preparation of donor submissions
• Design and layout quarterly updates and factsheets, including the creation of infographics and maps
• Support the drafting of contribution analysis reports
• Support in preparation of training materials and workshops
• Support preparation of the comprehensive briefing kits and background materials
• Edit and draft social media posts
• And other tasks as required
Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.

Conditions
This will be a full-time role with working hours starting from 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Geneva, Switzerland.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
