Organizational Setting and Reporting:
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures a framework for each actor to contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA’s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.
This temporary job opening is being advertised for the position of Driver/Clerk based in the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, Amman, Jordan. Under the overall supervision of the Head of Administration, the incumbent reports to the Fleet Manager.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Driver/Clerk will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
Provision of reliable and secure driving services.
- Drive vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo goods.
- Make regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the UN office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
- Make minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collect goods from Customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
- Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
- Remain flexible for traveling outside the city and working overtime if required.
- Comply with implementing all security measures for passengers and vehicles during trips regardless of the location or the destination of travel.
- Follow all traffic rules, regulations, and laws.
- Report immediately any vehicle accident, incident, or mechanical failure.
- Use radio communication to carry out tasks as directed by the supervisor and always remain vigilant and professional.
- Deal effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
- Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given.
Proper use of vehicle and day-to-day inspection of the assigned vehicle.
- Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicles.
- Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, carry out vehicle inspections, and check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, body damage, etc.
- Perform minor repairs, arrange for other repairs, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
- Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
- Maintain accurate and complete vehicle logbook records.
- Ensure that the steps required by SOP and policies are taken in case of involvement in an accident/incident.
- Provide inputs to the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Ensure all required vehicle documents and supplies are available, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
- Ensure office files pertaining to fleet management are maintained accurately.
Other administrative support
- Assist with other administrative and logistical support when/if required and perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist with facilities and assets management, including during physical inventory verification exercises by checking the accuracy of records and assets/equipment locations.
- Assist in the computation and preparation of overtime and related records.
- Assist in VIP visit preparations, including accommodation and venue bookings and meeting arrangements.

Knowledge of the area and the current condition of roads and highways, security and safety awareness; familiarity with frequently traveled routes and routines of the more senior staff or the officers. Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job Specific Qualifications
A valid national driver’s license and a clean driving record with no traffic violations is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressive and responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
Experience working with the United Nations Common System, a comparable international and/or non-governmental organization, or with embassies is desirable.
Experience in the basic use of computers and relevant office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and the ability to use web-based management and electronic log, file, and/or scheduling systems is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this advertised position, knowledge of English is required. Fluency in Arabic is required.
