OCHA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OCHA ROAP), based in Bangkok, Thailand. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response effort. OCHA’s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.

This position is located in the Administrative Support Unit, UNOCHA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, of which its objectives are to provide all related administrative services, both through remotely support and physically deployment, to all OCHA offices in the Asia Pacific region. The incumbent reports to the Senior Administrative Assistant.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Administrative Assistant and overall supervision of the Regional Administrative and Finance Officer, the incumbent is required to perform the following functions:

• Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and, in the case of Peacekeeping missions, for the transport of general cargo goods and or specialized hazardous good vehicles.
• Collects and delivers, including packs of mail, documents, and other items; and receives visitors and refers them to the appropriate source or reply to simple queries when possible.
• Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required;
• Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.; performs minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
• Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, dashboard camera, operates a variety of office equipment in the performance of basic office functions, e.g. photocopier, printer, scanner, etc.
• Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of required experience.

A valid Thai driver license is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of one year (or no experience if graduated with a first-level university degree) of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.

Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles, is desirable.

Experience in the United Nations Common System or international organizations is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Thai is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Special Notice

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. This is a temporary position and will be available for 6 months. If selected, an internal candidate will be on temporary assignment to the post; an external candidate will initially be offered a temporary appointment.
