The driver/logistics assistant will provide safe transport, service asset & warehouse management for Mercy Corps program and support staff in the four districts of Karamoja. The driver/Logistics Assistant will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport and warehouse/asset management guidelines required by MC logistics department.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Operate MC Vehicles as assigned by supervisor
Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with MC policies/regulations
Check the vehicle conditions before and after each trip/routinely- report needs and problems to the transport management
Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by MC and supervisor
Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc
Keep the vehicle ready, clean and on standby – ready for use at all times
Assist, as required, with logistics in the office and guesthouse daily workloads
Cooperate and be of assistance to staff and visitors – assist in troubleshooting potential problems during daily business
Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to transport management on a regular basis
Do the regular service and maintenance of vehicles and motorbikes
Undertake field assignments as assigned
Undertake deployment of drivers as required by the program needs
Asset & Warehouse Management
Maintain the asset records for the Karenga office and report assets related information to the logistics officer in Kaabong
Maintain copies of documentation of assets for Karenga office
Maintain copies of stores documentation for items dispatched from Kaabong field office locations in Karenga
Liaise with Kaabong, Kampala and/or any other offices on the assets management, movement & monitor if the register is properly maintained and it matches the softcopy
Liaise with the logistics officer Kaabong and conduct monthly asset location reporting and annual verification exercises for Karenga field office
Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals
Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and not to jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation
Other duties as assigned
KNOWLDGE & EXPEREINCE
Must have a UCE (O-Level) certificate
Valid class B drivers’ license as a minimum and good experience driving 4×4 vehicles
Must be knowledgeable and obedient to the traffic and safety act of Uganda
Good understanding of English is required
Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas, the NGO and diplomatic community
Must know NGO vehicle policies and regulations
Must know what preventative maintenance is required for their vehicles
Must know basic first aid techniques
Must know the actions to be taken in the event of an accident
Must be able to change a wheel and do minor repairs and vehicle servicing
Microsoft Office specifically excel and computer skills, experience with using email
Excellent English oral & written skills
Proven ability to solve problems independently without supervision
Basic knowledge and understanding of asset, warehouse and fleet management practices, ethics as well the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies and procedures is essential
The ability to interact effectively with international and national staff members
