Job Purpose and Organizational Context
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA’s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.
Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Administrative Officer, the incumbent will provide reliable and safe driving services to OCHA staff, and if so, required to other UN officials and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility. The Driver must have excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues and a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
The Driver provides driving services to the operations and programme staff in the Hub, Consultants and Experts, and UN staff on mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services.
Driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle.
Timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs.
Timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
- Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle.
Ensure the management of vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
- Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies.
Competencies
- Ability to collect, register, maintain and deliver mail and UNDP pouch; ability to manage archives.
- Knowledge of policy & procedures on fleet management.
- Knowledge of policy and procedures on insurance; ability to conduct risk assessment to procure coverage; to ensure relevant tracking and reporting.
- Ability to manage events, including venue identification, accommodation, logistics, catering, transportation, and cash disbursements, etc.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary Education.
- Valid Driver’s license.
Experience:
- Two years of work experience as a driver; safe driving record.
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
- Previous similar work experience in the Province of Cabo Delgado is highly desirable.
