The Pension and Endowments Department (PEN) is responsible for the financial management and administration of the World Bank Group’s funded benefit plans, including the retirement scheme – the Staff Retirement Plan, the retiree medical and life insurance programs – the Retired Staff Benefits Plan, and other ancillary benefits. The financial management includes asset management responsibilities and actuarial support. PEN manages about $37 billion US dollars invested across a range of asset classes, from fixed income to public equities to private equity, real assets, absolute return and credit strategies. The Pension Finance Committee, appointed by the Bank Group President and chaired by the Chief Financial Officer, has oversight responsibility for the financial management of the plans. PEN’s responsibilities also include the delivery of technical assistance on multi- asset class investment management to pension plans, endowments and funds for the future, and the management of the Pension Administration function. PEN identifies, selects, evaluates, and monitors investments, through outside managers, globally.
The Pension Middle Office team (PENMO) under PEN is responsible for providing a full range of functions supporting these investment activities, including the following: i) pension plan operational activities, ii) pension plans financial statements, iii) pension investment performance and attribution, iv) asset class exposure monitoring, v) all investment asset pricing and valuation, and vi) third-party clients’ reporting.

Duties and Accountabilities:
Under the guidance and supervision of a Team Leader, the selected candidate will be responsible for specific individual tasks/projects and for working as an integral part of the team in executing PENMO’s work program. The primary responsibilities will include, but not limited to, some combination of the following activities:
• Perform and/or review investment performance reporting of a multi-asset class portfolio including attribution analysis to support the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to internal management;
• Calculate benchmark risk rebalancing for potential trading by portfolio managers as well as ongoing reporting of portfolio exposure and performance to the management;
• Manage the data quality process of public asset class managers and performing investment management or performance fee reviews;
• Provide continuous first-class support to the pension investment team on regular and ad hoc requirements including analysis related to new investment;
• Monitor and provide guidance to the custodian on performance reporting;
• Perform quality reviews and analysis on asset class specific reporting;
• Monitor and manage cash liquidity of the pension portfolios;
• Oversee manager action funding activities;
• Lead ad hoc projects in the areas of management reporting, valuation control, and performance analytics.
Selection Criteria
1. Qualified candidates should have a postgraduate degree (MBA or Master’s in Finance) or have earned the CFA designation, with a minimum of 5 years of experience. Direct exposure to performance reporting involving a multi asset class portfolio and/or a professional certification (CIPM, FRM, PRM, CAIA, CPA) could be a plus;
2. Strong knowledge of financial instruments including public equity securities, fixed income securities, derivatives products and alternative investments (such as hedge funds, private equity, real estate);
3. A sound understanding of industry practices and current developments in valuation / performance /attribution reporting related to multi asset class portfolio and/or pension plans;
4. Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and proficiency in Excel, Excel macros and programing;
5. Experience in data visualization tools such as Power BI and/or Tableau and experience in coding languages such as Python, R with either a relevant certification or proven coding/ development related project experience a strong plus;
6. Able to work with large amounts of data, with good analytical skills, the ability to draw conclusions, and present findings in a clear manner;
7. Ability to streamline processes to deliver accurate and useful reports to clients, and carry out critical control procedures with a high degree of professionalism;
8. Proven capacity to multitask, deliver results and respond quickly and effectively to requests. Ability to work under pressure and great attention to details;
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, including the capacity to communicate and discuss complex technical reporting issues in simple terms both verbally and in writing;
10. A very high degree of self-motivation and drive to high performance, while instilling a culture of positive engagement and care in the workplace; and
11. Having the highest ethical standards.
