East Coastal Planner (EO)

Marine Management Organisation

tendersglobal.net

This is a really exciting time to join the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) as we become an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment. The MMO licenses, regulates and plans marine activities in the seas around England so that they are carried out in a sustainable way. In April 2014 the Secretary of State adopted the first ever marine plans for the East Inshore and Offshore marine plan areas. Marine plans for the South Inshore and Offshore marine plan areas followed in 2018. In June 2021 the Government adopted and published the North East, North West, South East and South West Marine Plans. The decision has been taken to replace the East Marine Plan, with work already underway.

Marine plans guide developers, planning authorities and other decision-makers so that their activities happen in a sustainable and coordinated way. Reporting to the Higher Executive Officer (HEO), the post holder will contribute to the production, implementation and monitoring of marine plans for England. As one of two marine planners for the east marine plan area, the incumbent will be at the heart of policy development, engaging with local and national stakeholders and working closely with other internal teams and external organisations to develop a new East Marine Plan. They will deliver marine planning tasks as directed by the Marine Planner HEO, working across marine planning functions.

Work will be directed by the marine planning team and the Marine Planner (East) post will be based in the MMO’s Lowestoft office with flexible working arrangements. Other suitable locations may be considered. All roles will be expected to travel to attend meetings on a regular basis, under normal circumstances. A driving licence is highly desirable for this role.

Merit List

A merit list will be created following the interview process for Marine Management Organisation candidates that passed the interview but were not selected for the advertised roles. This merit list will be kept for 1 year and may be used to fill future vacant positions within the Marine Planning team in MMO offices around England.

Please refer to the candidate pack for full job details. Note that only applications made using the MMO CV template will be processed.
