Eastern Conservation Partnerships Coordinator

National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time position to a candidate who will be an integral part of the Institutional Giving team by coordinating with institutional funding prospects to grow and steward philanthropic support for NFF programs and projects in U.S. Forest Service Region 9, as well as for unrestricted funding and other NFF priorities. The successful candidate will work remotely and ideally will reside within Region 9, located in the upper northeastern quadrant of the U.S.

 

About the NFF: As the official national partner to the US Forest Service (USFS), the National Forest Foundation was chartered by Congress in 1993. Today, the NFF advances forest resiliency, healthy watersheds and wildlife habitat, and recreation for all by working with communities and organizations across the country. The Foundation has grown significantly in the last few years in programmatic impact, revenue and support, and organizational capacity. NFF leads with impact, deploying roughly 90% of its expenses towards projects and programs across the country’s 193-million-acre National Forest System. NFF is forward-thinking and innovative, with ambitious strategies and goals to advance and prepare forests for a new economy.

 

Position Function: The position will report to the Senior Director of Institutional Giving and is responsible for generating funds from new and existing sources with an emphasis on companies, foundations, and government grant opportunities to advance the NFF mission. The position will work closely with field staff and other NFF departments to lead fundraising efforts with institutions based in Region 9; steward and manage a portfolio of partners; and actively prospect and grow support for the NFF’s projects in the Region and other NFF priorities, such as unrestricted funding.

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Eastern Conservation Partnerships Coordinator will:

• Expand the NFF base of funders though consistent prospecting and actively pursuing corporate partnerships, foundation grant funding, federal and local government grants, and other sources of support as appropriate.
• Manage a growing portfolio of prospects through stewardship, including executing appropriate benefits for partners and submitting proposals and reports.
• Work closely with the Institutional Giving Team and assist Region 9 field staff in their fundraising activities, including editorial review and support for proposals, letters of inquiry, corporate decks, sponsorship materials, etc.
• Work closely with the Institutional Giving Team and Region 9 field staff to understand priority funding needs and develop a strong understanding of regional projects and programs.
• Initiate telephone and email contact with prospects and funders to qualify, cultivate, and close grants and commitments.
• Respond quickly to inquiries from companies or other potential funders.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Qualifications: NFF expects the Eastern Conservation Partnerships Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of three years’ experience with proven results in fundraising, including prospecting, cultivation, proposal development, and stewardship.
• Experience and interest in conservation issues and a nonprofit environment preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, including grant writing, report writing, editing, and telephone communication.
• Experience in high-volume donor outreach and aligning donor goals with NFF’s programs, projects, and mission.
• Demonstrated proficiency in common office procedures and software, including Microsoft 365 and Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, as well as familiarity with CRM systems.

• Ability to occasionally travel (estimated two to four times annually) and occasionally work evenings and/or weekends.

Location: Although this is a remote position, candidates will ideally reside in one of the states in U.S. Forest Service Region 9 which include: MN, IA, MO, WI, IL, MI, IN, OH, WV, PA MD, DE, NJ, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, NY, and ME. This position is a work-from-home position and requires reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace.

 

Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation and benefits. The salary for this position is $61,000 with the ability to grow to $70,200 and above and may be eligible for locality adjustments.
