WE ARE

5G.H2 is the unit responsible for the co-ordination of the Commission participation to Coreper I and II, Council and European Council meetings. In particular, the unit is responsible for:

  • ensuring that the Commission presents and defends its initiatives in COREPER I and II in line with the College priorities and reporting on the outcome of meetings;
  • providing timely information and political intelligence on the activities of the Council and its preparatory bodies to enable the Commission to take informed positions during the inter- institutional decision-making process;
  • providing advice to policy units and DGs on procedural matters and on negotiation strategies concerning relations with the Council;
  • as necessary, prepare and follow up discussions on inter-institutional files in the GRI;
  • liaising with the upcoming Presidencies of the Council of the Union and with the Secretariat- General of the Council.
  • preparing the participation of the President of the Commission to European Council meetings and ensure follow-up.

The unit works in close contact with the Cabinet of the President, SG senior management and in particular provides direct assistance to the Commission representatives in Coreper I and II and to the Cabinet of Commissioner Sefcovic, in the preparation of the General Affairs Council. It ensures liaising with the Council General Secretariat and the Permanent Representations of the Member States.

WE PROPOSE the Coreper I Representative (and the Head of Unit) in the monitoring and organisation of the Coreper I team within the unit on human resources matters, such as validation of timesheets, sick leaves and holidays, validation of training applications, planification of holidays and back up, recruiting trainees, and supporting the Coreper I Representative (and the Head of Unit) in defining job descriptions and objectives for the Coreper I team members. He/She will also contribute to the preparation of Coreper files and the review of Coreper flash reports (SI notes). The unit offers a friendly and dynamic working atmosphere.

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for a motivated Secretary with a sense of responsibility and initiative, who is able to keep clear priorities in a dynamic context and to organise work effectively and in a structured manner. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and effective way is required. The candidate should have proven administrative skills, including good knowledge of Commission and Council procedures and IT tools (Microsoft Office, Ares, MIPS…). The main working languages are English and French. The candidate should be capable of working independently, delivering under tight deadlines at times. Discretion, reliability and sense of service are required. The candidate should be prepared to occasionally show some flexibility in working hours.

Unit SG.H.2 is seeking to hire a Secretary for an interesting and stimulating job with the Coreper I Representative, in a dynamic environment at the heart of the Commission’s interinstitutional relations. The job requires organising the agenda of the Coreper I Representative, for both internal and external meetings, filtering phone calls, ensuring the circulation of documents to the Unit, organising meetings, dispatching documents, overseeing internal communication and maintaining a network of contacts inside and outside the Commission, notably with the rotating Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Permanent Representations.
