The Research Associate Program at GBI, in cooperation with BLM Utah, is recruiting one (1) Native Seed Program Manager to provide GIS support and administrative support for the Seeds of Success (SOS) national native seed collection program across Colorado Plateau ecoregion. 

Project goals will be advanced by using USGS tools with our SOS inventory, seed source origin locations, and geospatial data to identify plant materials needs and to plan SOS collection priorities. The project will also provide district biologists, project specialists, and managers with plant materials and population information that can be used to evaluate conservation objectives, restoration efficacy, and the interactive effects of climate, drought, invasive species, and wildfire. This project may also identify factors that can improve restoration efforts before important ecosystems are lost.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing USGS tools with Seeds of Success data to identify plant materials needs and to plan SOS collection priorities.
  • Updating compiled seed collection inventory, test result, seed storage and location data as it comes in.
  • Updating data on commercially available plant materials and their characteristics.
  • Performing quality control on native seed collection data.
  • Compiling propagation trail information from seed increase partners.
  • Producing maps and other data visualization tools for reporting and presentations.
  • Collaborating within the Bureau of Land Management as well as with other federal agencies, non-profits, and plant conservation organizations.
  • Opportunities may exist for outreach and education, Seed of Success fieldwork, and regional restoration and rehabilitation support.

Timeline:

  • Start Date: January 2026, 52 weeks.
  • Full time (40 hours/week).
  • Schedule: M-F schedule, 8 hours daily.

Location: 

Greater Colorado Plateau region (Remote work may be possible).

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation: $25 hourly.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Botany or related discipline, or a combination of relevant education and field experience.
  • Enthusiasm about the position, with interest in and knowledge of botany, native seed production, and /or plant propagation.
  • Experience managing and updating large datasets.
  • Extensive GIS experience, including spatial analysis, database management, use of the Esri suite, including ArcGIS online, ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, Survey 123, and Field Maps.
  • Experience producing maps and data synthesis tables.
  • Experience with data entry and QA/QC procedures.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willing to undergo and pass required background checks.
  • Driving: Must provide a valid driver’s license and possess a clean driving record.
