Native lakeside meadow ft. Fillipendula rubra and Verbena hastata

Meadowscapes is an ecological landscaping design/build company located in Falls Village, CT. We strive to shift the traditional landscaping paradigm into a new model that focuses on ecology and sustainability through the use of native plants, sourcing local materials, solar powered electric equipment, and using organic inputs. We transform lawns into native meadows, garden with natural communities, and remove invasive species. This winter, we bought a small greenhouse where we’re growing our own native plants with ecotypic seed (and some non ecotypic) which we plan to continue expanding in the future. We work throughout the tri-state region, occasionally traveling farther.

We’re looking to hire 1-3 employees for the coming season, starting in mid-March/early April, project depending. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Housing assistance may be available with a 20% discount on employer-owned housing. Please expect to work 40-48 hours a week, five days a week with overtime pay.

The Position (60% maintenance, 40% installation/other):

  • Maintain native meadows by cutting and pulling invasive species
  • Assist with the installation of meadows and gardens (erosion control, weed whacking, planting, mulching)
  • Invasive species removal (manual, ‘cut and paint’ method, organic herbicide sprays)
  • Compost tea brewing and application
  • Assist with the propagation and caretaking of nursery plants

Expectations and Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Basic knowledge of native and invasive plants
  • Enthusiasm for ecology and ecosystem processes
  • Prior experience in landscaping, farming, ecological field work, and/or horticulture strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a nursery or with heavy equipment (tractors, skidsteers, excavators) highly desired
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well independently and in a team
  • Desire to uphold an inclusive, positive work culture

Hourly Rate

$22-27/hour, DOE

Season will run mid-March/April, 2024 – November 15th, 2024

No health benefits are available at this time.

Women, racial minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are encouraged to apply.
