Ecological Restoration Practitioner

Job Summary: 

The Ecological Restoration Practitioner will work closely with the Conservation Manager to execute the ecological restoration program at Kinloch Farm, including, but not limited to, Piedmont savanna establishment and maintenance, prescribed fire, oak woodland restoration, and riparian and wetland restoration.

Responsibilities: 

• Support all aspects of planning, execution, monitoring, and record keeping of restoration activities
• Assist with staff supervision and task delegation
• Biodiversity inventory and monitoring
• Site assessment and restoration planning
• Prescribed fireplanning and execution
• Selective tree thinning for woodland restoration
• Invasive species control with herbicide and/ or mechanical interventions
• Harvest seed from grassland remnants and assist with propagation and seed production
• Research design, data collection, and analysis
• Assist with facilities and equipment maintenance and upkeep

Qualifications: 

• Strong initiative and the ability to complete and/or communicate additional tasks as they arise
• Efficiently performs high-quality work with attention to detail and aesthetics
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Familiarity with flora/fauna of Virginia or Eastern US and can use a dichotomous key and other resources
• Prior experience with large and small equipment operation
• Experience with prescribed fire, burn boss preferred
• Ability to identify invasive species and control them with herbicides
• Knowledge of research methods and basic data analysis
• Experience with seed collection
• GIS mapping experience
• Ability to pass a background check

Compensation: $55,000-$65,000, depending upon experience
