Ecological Restoration Technician

Job Title: Ecological Restoration Technician—Part-Time 

Job Summary: 

The Ecological Restoration Technician will work closely with the Conservation/Restoration Manager and Restoration Practitioner to execute the ecological restoration program at Kinloch Farm. Including, but not limited to, Piedmont savanna establishment and maintenance, prescribed fire, oak woodland restoration, riparian and wetland restoration, and invasive species control.  

Responsibilities: 

• Support all aspects of planning, execution, and monitoring of restoration activities
• Strong initiative and the ability to complete and/ or communicate additional tasks as they arise
• Perform biodiversity inventory and monitoring
• Establish fire breaks, remove ladder fuels, and other prescribed fire site preparation
• Perform selective tree thinning for woodland restoration
• Participate in prescribed fire
• Perform invasive species control with herbicide and/ or mechanical interventions
• Harvest seed from grassland remnants and assist with propagation and seed production
• Assist with facilities and equipment maintenance and upkeep

Qualifications: 

• Highly motivated to learn and perform ecological restoration, both supervised and independently
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to perform strenuous labor under adverse conditions
• Familiarity with flora and fauna. Ability to use a dichotomous key and other resources desirable
• Prior experience with machinery operation and/or a willingness to learn
• Communicates effectively and works well with others

Compensation: 

• This is a part-time position paid hourly at a range of $18-$22 per hour, depending upon experience. Weekly hours will not exceed 29.75 hours per week.
