The Allegan Conservation District is seeking to hire two (2) Ecological Strike Team Crew Members to assist with invasive species management and restoration projects across Allegan County. Crew members will work under the direction of the Restoration Coordinator on invasive species survey and treatment, native seed collection, and more. Invasive species removal methods will vary from mechanical removal to chemical treatment using appropriate herbicides. Crew members will participate in hands-on learning and become successful at plant identification, invasive species treatment, equipment maintenance, as well as other specialized restoration and natural resource skills.
This is a new position at the Allegan Conservation District funded by local millage dollars. The Allegan Conservation District is a unique unit of local government that utilizes state, federal and private sector resources to solve local conservation problems. We are dedicated to helping all land users wisely manage the natural resources of Allegan county.
WORKING LOCATION AND CONDITIONS
The position will be based at the Allegan Conservation District Office in Allegan, Michigan. Workdays are generally Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for workshops, meetings, or major events. This a field-based position, with the strike team working outside 75% of the time throughout the season. The incumbents will work in a wide range of conditions, including traversing uneven terrain or wetlands, and unideal weather such as rain or high heat. The incumbents are expected to hike long distances, use pesticides, hand tools, and power tools, and lift up to 50 pounds without mechanical assistance.
COMPENSATION
The Ecological Strike Team Crew Member is a part-time, seasonal, hourly position with a base pay of $18/hour. The incumbents are expected to work a minimum of 3 days per week, with the potential for an increase in hours dependent on client demand. Total hours worked each week may vary due to weather conditions and workload. This is a seasonal position generally running from June 1st to August 28th.
