About us
Outerspace are an award winning Landscape and Urban Design practice, working across the sectors
including large scale residential, education, commercial and health care.
We work with other design consultancies at the Boathouse Design Studio, a Grade 2 Listed
Building on the riverside in Teddington. The office is located between Kingston and Richmond, a
30-minute train journey from London Waterloo.
In Outerspace we strive to get a balance between work and play and the professional development
of staff is incredibly important to us. This is demonstrated through our award of ‘Investors in
People’ Silver accreditation and winning the Pro-Landscaper Business Award 2018. The team works
a condensed 4.5 day week, with the office shutting at Friday lunchtime. Staff can also work one and a half days a week from home.
Our office environment offers a friendly, calming but creatively challenging studio. The

The role
Outerspace are excited to appoint our first Ecologist to join our talented and friendly
landscape and urban design team. With Biodiversity Net Gain becoming a key element of all our
schemes, together with our own objective to maximise human connectivity with nature, we are
seeking a motivated individual to support us on projects with the potential of growing a team
in the future.
Thus the successful applicant will be able to initially work independently whilst being able to
lead a small team in the longer term. You will have the opportunity to assist with all areas of
our work, including:
- Primarily to secure and work on BNG projects
- Undertaking a wide range of ecological surveys and mitigation
- Supervising ecological aspects of our landscape design work
- Production of ecological reports
- Designing and implementing mitigation schemes
- Project management
About you
- Be a friendly team player to fit into our culture, whilst being enthusiastic about this
opportunity - Have Full Membership of the CIEEM, and either Associate or Senior Consultant level
- Essential: experience in working on and delivering Biodiversity Net Gain Metric / Small
Sites Metric - Able to undertake a range of habitat and protected species surveys
- Full awareness of current green infrastructure policies, frameworks and environmental
legislation - Experience using UK Habs
- Have excellent organisation skills
- Confidence in written and verbal communication and produce high quality reports
- Be located within an hour’s commute of our studio
- Have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and coach others, and be able to
communicate clearly and confidently with clients, contractors, and their peers. - A valid CSCS card is desirable.
