About Us

Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) helps to conserve and enhance the biodiversity,
cultural heritage and landscape of Dartmoor, and provide opportunities for people to enjoy the
countryside as well as supporting our local communities and the rural economy.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join our growing Natural
Environment team. We are looking for an experienced individual who is passionate about the
environment and who wants to make a positive difference to the natural world in one our most
treasured landscapes.

The role is a permanent, full-time position.

The Benefits

  • Salary of £32,076 – £36,648 per annum
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Generous holiday allowance plus bank holidays
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension
    Scheme
  • Blended working from home and from our stunning HQ on the National Trust’s Parke estate in Bovey Tracey
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Wellbeing support services

The Role

Key to this role will be the development and delivery of our ambitious nature recovery strategy
through our Partnership Plan. You will be working closely with our other DNPA Ecologist to
deliver:

  • Specialist ecological advice to DNPA staff, partner organisations, landowners, managers and
    the general public.
  • Woodland advice relating to DNPA land, consultations, grants and wider planting and
management schemes across the National Park
  • Ecological objectives and management on our own estate
  • Collaborative partnership projects to deliver landscape scale enhancements, species and
    habitat conservation and community projects
  • Assessments on planning applications and consultations for the Planning and other
    departments
  • Championing nature on Dartmoor
  • The design, commission and oversight of ecological survey, monitoring and research
    contracts.

This is a varied and interesting role, working across a number of disciplines with scope to
learn and develop according to needs and interests. While we are looking for an ecologist with
a broad range of skills, about 20% of the post will be providing woodland advice across
Dartmoor. The post will be based at the Authority’s offices in Bovey Tracey. You will also be
required to travel extensively within the National Park.

About You

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in the conservation sector, and ideally experience of
    landscape scale initiatives
  • Good demonstrable ecological and survey skills
  • Woodland management skills
  • Experience of providing advice to a range of stakeholders
including land managers, partners and communities
  • Experience of working with farmers and land
managers toward positive agricultural and/or environmental outcomes
  • Experience of writing and
    managing contracts
  • Understanding of the planning system
