We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join our growing Natural
Environment team. We are looking for an experienced individual who is passionate about the
environment and who wants to make a positive difference to the natural world in one our most
treasured landscapes.
The role is a permanent, full-time position.

The Role
Key to this role will be the development and delivery of our ambitious nature recovery strategy
through our Partnership Plan. You will be working closely with our other DNPA Ecologist to
deliver:
- Specialist ecological advice to DNPA staff, partner organisations, landowners, managers and
the general public. - Woodland advice relating to DNPA land, consultations, grants and wider planting and
management schemes across the National Park - Ecological objectives and management on our own estate
- Collaborative partnership projects to deliver landscape scale enhancements, species and
habitat conservation and community projects - Assessments on planning applications and consultations for the Planning and other
departments - Championing nature on Dartmoor
- The design, commission and oversight of ecological survey, monitoring and research
contracts.
This is a varied and interesting role, working across a number of disciplines with scope to
learn and develop according to needs and interests. While we are looking for an ecologist with
a broad range of skills, about 20% of the post will be providing woodland advice across
Dartmoor. The post will be based at the Authority’s offices in Bovey Tracey. You will also be
required to travel extensively within the National Park.
About You
To be successful you will need:
- Demonstrable experience of working in the conservation sector, and ideally experience of
landscape scale initiatives - Good demonstrable ecological and survey skills
- Woodland management skills
- Experience of providing advice to a range of stakeholders
including land managers, partners and communities - Experience of working with farmers and land
managers toward positive agricultural and/or environmental outcomes - Experience of writing and
managing contracts - Understanding of the planning system
