East Lindsey District Council are looking for an Ecologist with the experience and
skills to ensure new planning developments address the need to consider wildlife and
habitats.
The imminent implementation of mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) means we are looking for
an Ecologist to work across our three planning departments. The role provides the opportunity
to mould and develop the approach taken towards BNG whilst providing technical advice and
support to internal and external stakeholders.
While primarily based within the Development Management team, the post will oversee a small
team of two other Officers to be recruited in due course and will also need to work closely
across service areas to ensure outcomes are met and implementation is effective.
This is a new role created specifically to support Biodiversity Net Gain delivery across the
East Lindsey, Boston Borough and South Holland area. The Ecologist will be the technical expert
on how BNG is assessed, measured and implemented but there will also be opportunities to
explore potential opportunities for income generation as well as working to ensure a
co-ordinated approach to habitat creation and enhancement is achieved.
The successful candidate will need to be a dynamic team player who demonstrates good
communication skills to a wide range of audiences and has a strong eye for detail. They will
need to have a strong understanding of both the policy framework and practical implementation
of biodiversity net gain and be confident in supporting colleagues to embrace new ways of
working.
What we need from you:
- Degree level in Ecology or related discipline
- Corporate membership of CIEEM, IEMA or similar professional body or working towards
- Considerable experience of working as an ecological consultant or ecologist within a local
planning authority - A thorough understanding of BNG assessment and the Defra Metric, net gain plans and good
practice guidelines and national planning policy - Full driving licence
