 The Spatial Ecologist is responsible for developing and maintaining processes for efficient data collection and synthesis for a variety of projects focused on wildlife and vegetation monitoring and research, habitat restoration, and native seed production. They will also contribute to designing the implementing research and monitoring projects, splitting their time between office and field work (roughly 60/40). The Ecologist and GIS Specialist will be responsible for organizing and analyzing GIS data and remote sensing imagery. They will produce data summaries and project reports.

Expectations and Core Accountabilities

  • Leads data management for Conservancy project, including creating and troubleshooting data collection applications (Esri Suite), designing and implementing data quality control procedures, and developing data storage and management SOPs.
  • Serves as technical expert for GIS, mapping, and remote sensing needs.
  • Produce robust data summaries and technical reports, ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met for multiple projects.
  • Contributes to project design and conducts research and monitoring field work, occasionally leading and supervising other Conservancy staff.

Requirements

  • Experience with ArcGIS and Esri applications, coding in Python and/or R, and remote sensing and imagery analysis.
  • Experience and knowledge related to natural resources management, ecological monitoring, community ecology, botany, or related field.
  • Strong organizational and data management skills.
  • Ability to work outside in remote locations, sometimes independently and in extreme weather conditions.
  • Commitment to meeting objectives of diverse projects. Ability to solve problems and pivot based on shifting priorities.
