HED Ltd is an ecology consultancy based in Dingwall near Inverness, with over 30 years of
experience providing ecological services on small- and large-scale developments across the
Scottish Highlands.
As Scotland undergoes exciting new developments in the renewables sector, we are looking to
grow our small but close-knit team of environmental professionals. Our services include
Environmental Clerk of Works – providing industry-based best practice guidance to our clients
to support them in meeting their environmental standards. We also advise and provide practical
support to our clients in implementing the appropriate mitigation to ensure compliance with
ecological and environmental legislation. Ecological surveying is another key service we
provide, including protected species surveys, national vegetation classification, pre-works
walkover surveys and more.
Responsibilities
As an Ecologist and Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting regular site visits to development sites, monitoring compliance to environmental
legislation and writing regular reports as an EnvCoW on small- and large-scale construction
sites. - Delivering ‘Toolbox Talks’ to site operatives on environmental and ecological topics
relevant to site. - Providing best-practice guidance to the client on how to meet their ecological and
environmental obligations. - Collecting quality-assured biological data on Protected Species Surveys individuals and as
part of a team. - Writing technical ecological reports and comprehensive species protection plans detailing
industry-based guidance for clients to meet their licencing and planning conditions. - Liaising with clients and external stakeholders to ensure our services are delivered in a
professional and practicable manner.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience working within the ecology/environmental sector,
demonstratable EnvCoW experience is preferable. - Full, valid driving licence and willingness to travel/work away from home (overnight
accommodation provided for long-distance journeys). - Experience conducting ecological surveys.
- Willingness to work independently (with the support of the team) in remote locations.
- Willingness to work unsociable hours where necessary (e.g. bat activity surveys and
nightshift work on occasion). - Personable manner and ability to cooperate with a diverse range of people to deliver shared
environmental and ecological objectives. - Tree climbing qualifications desirable but not mandatory.
- Protected Species Licence (bat, badger, Schedule 1 birds, otter, and/or Freshwater Pearl
Mussel) desirable, not mandatory.
