RES is now accepting applications for Ecologist II to provide support to a team of environmental consulting, restoration, and mitigation professionals, based out of our Louisville or Frankfort offices.

The mission: Will work collaboratively with ecology and regulatory personnel to perform all aspects of field work, data compilation, and preparation of technical reports. You will be part of a team that is always ready to support you in your learning process. 

What your day-to-day might look like?

Around 70% of your time, you will be in the field! You will be performing stream and wetlands delineations, vegetation monitoring, conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys, feasibility assessment of potential restoration projects, endangered species and habitat surveys, and restoration success monitoring.  

Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and under adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, climbing, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. Some of our projects also require occasional travel with overnight stays. 

Around 30% of your time, you will be performing data entry, data processing, and technical writing based on your fieldwork. This could include delineation reports, detailed mitigation/restoration plans, mitigation bank proformas, Biological Assessments (BAs) for endangered species, detailed scopes of work and budgets, water/wetland permit application packages, and regulatory summaries outlining development strategies for our clients. Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount! 

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following: 

  • B.S. in an environmental science-related field (such as but not limited to ecology, forestry, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, geology, soils, hydrology)
  • 3+ years experience in a natural resource–related field
  • Experience performing wetland delineations and /or stream determinations.
  • Understanding of geomorphology stream assessment principles.
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Comfortable hauling trailers and working with ATVs/UTVs
  • Ability to read and interpret environmental mapping.  

What will make you stand out?  

  • MS in an applicable environmental science field
  • Experience performing macroinvertebrate and/or fish surveys. 
  • Experience with plant identification and vegetation surveys. 
  • Experience with Trimble GPS and various survey equipment
  • Direct experience with state and federal regulations and permitting processes, including work with resource/regulatory agency personnel. GIS proficiency 
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional In Training (WPIT) certification
  • Rosgen Level I (or related) certification
