We are seeking passionate and experienced Ecologists specialising in Botany and/or Zoology, across a range of years of experience from early career to senior ecologists, to join our team in our Perth office. As an Ecologist at JBS&G, you will play a crucial role in conducting fieldwork, analysing data, and providing expert advice to support environmental assessment and management projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver high-quality solutions that meet regulatory requirements and promote conservation efforts.

Ecologist role:
- Design and conduct ecological surveys (including flora and vegetation; basic fauna; habitat assessments) and monitoring programs.
- Collect and analyse field data.
- Prepare technical reports, input for environmental impact assessments, and management plans.
- Provide expert advice on ecological issues and assist with strategic solutions and business development.
- Managing client and other stakeholder relationships, projects, budgets and timelines.
- Stay informed about relevant environmental regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Guiding and mentoring team members.
What we are looking for (all roles)
- A passion for and willingness to undertake fieldwork, often in remote locations and for extended periods of time, with the ability to travel and work away from Perth.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Tertiary qualification (botany, zoology, conservation biology, environmental science or equivalent).
- Experience in conducting ecological surveys and assessments, preferably in Western Australia.
- Strong fieldwork skills and familiarity with ecological survey techniques and protocols.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, using software such as GIS and statistical analysis tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate technical reports and deliver presentations.
- Holder of a current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s License.
- GIS skills/experience highly desirable.
For our senior positions, in addition to the above you will need to have:
- 5 years + experience undertaking botanical and/or zoological assessments in WA.
- Experience in survey design, leading of botanical surveys and project delivery.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and guidelines, such as the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999; Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA), Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (WA), and WA Environmental Protection Authority guidelines.
- Botanical taxonomy experience highly regarded.
