Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Edit/Media Specialist II Editor for University Communications and Marketing (UCM). Reporting to the Social Media Manager in the Office of University News and Media Relations, Department of University Communications and Marketing, the Multimedia Specialist produces content – including videos, photos, graphics and text – for university social media channels and sharing on other digital channels.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Produces content – including videos, written material, graphics, and photos – for university wide social media channels.
  • Assists with the management, scheduling and monitoring of the university’s social media channels.
  • Collaborates with UCM colleagues and additional stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Assists with student employees and interns on social media initiatives and content.

Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in English, journalism, communication, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two years of experience creating and monitoring social media content for social media channels including, but not limited to, Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires video-editing and photo-editing skills and proficiency with a variety of camera equipment, Adobe Creative Suite, and other related software.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • A creative and strategic mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • An enthusiasm for content creation, social media, and influencer messaging.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Videography and photography experience; photo, video and copy-editing skills; proficiency in use of photo and video equipment, DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, lighting systems
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Premier and After Effects) and current visual design trends
  • Experience managing social media platforms and using social media tools such as Hootsuite
  • Experience with content management systems, Drupal a plus
  • Experience with project management systems, such as Asana and Monday.com
Equipment Utilized
  • Canon DSLRs, BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, Adobe Creative Suite, Hootsuite, content management systems, project management systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Office environment with moderate noise.
Special Conditions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to use personal vehicle for university business.
  • Clean Driving Record.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to receive an updated (bivalent) vaccine dose. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals , if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
