Mission and objectives

The WHO Country Office was established in Prague in 1992 to assist Czechia in achieving its main public health priorities and to engage the country in global public health. The priorities for the Country Office are set out in the Biennial Plan of Cooperation between WHO/Europe and Czechia. The Office implements the plan in close collaboration with national institutions and international partner agencies.

Context

This online Volunteer assignment is part of the WHO Czechia Country Office’s efforts to enhance documentation, communication, and language services in support of key health initiatives. The WHO Czechia Country Office, established as part of the World Health Organization (WHO), works to improve the health and well-being of populations in Czechia in alignment with WHO’s global mandate. The office collaborates with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to strengthen health systems, promote public health initiatives, and ensure the dissemination of critical health information. The online volunteer will support the office’s activities and contribute to the implementation of key projects: 1. **Healthy Lifestyle Change Project**: This initiative promotes healthier living by encouraging physical activity, balanced nutrition, and preventive healthcare. It supports national efforts to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases and improve overall population well-being through awareness campaigns and evidence-based health recommendations. 2. **Environmental Health and Sustainability**: Addressing the impact of environmental factors on health, this project focuses on air quality, climate change adaptation, and sustainable urban development. It supports policies that create healthier environments and reduce exposure to health risks associated with pollution and climate change. 3. **Country Office Publications**: The WHO Czechia Country Office develops and disseminates key reports, including the Annual Report and the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS). These publications provide insights into public health priorities, strategic plans, and achievements, ensuring transparency and effective communication with stakeholders. The online volunteer will play an essential role in editing and proofreading documents, translating materials, interpreting at meetings, and preparing publications for release. By ensuring accuracy and clarity in WHO’s communication, the online volunteer will support the effective dissemination of health-related information to both national and international audiences.

Task Description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Country Office Business Operations Associate in close collaboration with counterparts at the respective WHO Regional Office and WHO HQ, the online volunteer will support various communication and documentation tasks. This includes editing, proofreading and preparing publications to ensure clarity and coherence with WHO style guide, translating documents, and providing interpretation during meetings. Additionally, the volunteer will draft texts and summaries to support reporting and information-sharing needs. The volunteer will also assist in processing publications in the WHO Bizagi system and coordinate with the WHO publishing unit for approvals and compliance. In particular, the following deliverables are expected from the online volunteer: • Publication editing/preparation (max 8 publication) • Processing publications for approval in WHO Bizagi tool and communication with the WHO publishing unit • Document translation (work with DeepL, language proof reading) • Meeting interpretation (max 1 meeting per month) • Text drafting/summaries
