Position description

The Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with a problem-solving mindset.  This position reports to the Principal Director, Content and Dissemination and is responsible for providing editorial and content support to the communications work of Carnegie Corporation of New York, facilitating departmental workflow, coordination of projects and production, and ensuring quality control of materials. S/he writes, edits, and optimizes print, digital, and multimedia content for multiple platforms. Additional responsibilities include the editing, presentation, and organization of content, video and audio materials, and special publications and materials.

Salary Range: $73,000.00 To 80,000.00 Annually

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support for the writing, editing, presentation, and organization of content for the Corporation’s print publications, website, and e-communications.
  • Copy edit, fact check, proof, and research assigned print and digital content to ensure that copy is accurate and adheres to style guides across digital and print platforms. 
  • Optimize digital content through SEO, keywords, headline writing, and overall UX.
  • Gather and format materials and input and check author and administrative changes as needed for the Carnegie ReporterAnnual Report, and other digital and print materials.
  • Perform research on current and historic grantee work and larger themes and ideas relating to the Corporation’s grantmaking.
  • Secure image and reprint permissions as needed.
  • Assist in the development and editing of visual and audio content, which may include photography, data visualizations, interactives, videos, and podcasts. 
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues on strategy and planning for a range of internal and external projects and goals, utilizing UX and SEO best practices. 
  • Assist in implementation strategies to maximize visibility in an effort to drive audiences to program content, campaigns, initiatives, reports, and other content.
  • Assist with publication requests, internal distribution, inventory, and archiving of various materials, keeping appropriate and accurate records.
  • Assist with day-to-day vendor contact, including communication with external copy editors, transcription services, photographers, audio and video production, and book publishers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • College education with coursework in journalism, editing, and/or communications is preferred.
  • Prior editorial experience and website content development is strongly preferred.  
  • Solid knowledge of copy editing and fact checking.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multitask while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and professionalism under tight deadlines.  
  • Excellent attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills; video and audio production and social media experience a plus; must be technologically savvy and engaged.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work productively as a team member. Must demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn and retain new techniques/skills while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Strong office and software experience, including familiarity with Word, Excel, Photoshop, PowerPoint, InDesign and/or Quark; proficiency on both PC and Mac; and experience with audio and video production, CMS platforms, and asset management software.
