Job Summary | The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking an editor to support our nationally recognized researchers and acclaimed junior staff in developing new publications. The primary responsibility for this position will be editing a wide range of manuscripts, abstracts, contract reports, maps, fact sheets, presentations, proposals, and other documents for grammar, spelling, clarity, readability, and consistency with KGS and/or other publication style guidelines. The successful candidate will be able to effectively advise KGS staff about scientific communications and technical writing best practices, including presenting occasional internal seminars or workshops on relevant topics. This position will be responsible for tracking KGS publication manuscript submissions through the publication process and maintaining the publication database. The person in this position will be expected to increase their skills by participating in professional development and being involved with geoscience and editing communities. Experience with scientific and technical writing, and a constructive team-oriented approach, is preferred. The KGS is an innovative state-mandated research center at the University of Kentucky and is the primary source of geologic information for and about Kentucky. The KGS primary office is on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington, a vibrant city of 300,000+ people in the heart of the scenic Bluegrass region.
