Background:

Sahara Economic Development Organization (SEDO) is Iraqi National NGO, it was established in November 2007 as an independent NGO with its main office in Tikrit city. It focuses on developing the economic sector by providing business management training courses and counseling services to entrepreneurs and potential investors to enable them to efficiently contribute to the local economy. SEDO is considered among the most effective and qualified organizations in Iraq. It has conducted economic studies on the business environment in Iraq, identifying business opportunities and market niches for potential investors in Iraq. SEDO started humanitarian intervention in Iraq to respond to the urgent need for our beneficiaries, its work in WASH, Livelihood, protection, Food security, and Education sectors.

 

 Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the assistant position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of the education project. Education assistants will support all field-level operations and supervise incentive workers.

 

Generic responsibilities:

    Adhere to SEDO policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines
    Strict adherence to the SEDO Code of Conduct

    Assist with the implementation of the education project according to the plan of action
    Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
    Ensure proper filing of documents

    Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
    Make decisions on the ground with limited or remote supervision

 Specific responsibilities:

    To assist in and supervise the implementation of educational activities at the field level under the direction of the education officer.

    Supervise education incentive staff and provide support to them in line with program objectives.

    Provide support to SEDO activities, schools, and incentive staff in line with SEDO quality standards.

    Ensure direct communication and feedback with beneficiaries and relevant host communities.

    Regularly travel to the field (minimum three days a week) to support education, recreation, and PSS activities.

    Prepare for, conduct, and monitor education field staff and formal teachers’ training on relevant educational topics.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.

 

Generic professional competencies:

    Experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context.

    Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts ability to remain calm and professional intense situations.

    Documented results related to previous responsibilities.

    Knowledge of English and Arabic and Kurdish.

    Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.

    Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

    Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting.

 

Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

    Understanding of the circumstances, educational needs, and challenges that refugees, IDPs, and the host community face.

    Understanding of the role of education in meeting the needs of refugees, IDPs, and the host community.

    Knowledge of the basics of Child Protection and/or psychosocial support.

    Experience working with schools, children, and/or educators.

    Experience in community mobilization, community outreach, and/or relationship building.
