Reports to: Education & Outreach Manager

Salary: $19.00 per hour

Job Description: The Education Assistant’s primary responsibility is the development, implementation and evaluation of mission focused education and training programs to a wide variety of audiences including AWI Watercraft Inspection Stewards, Adirondack residents, visitors, students, and other members of the public. The Education Assistant will be supervised by the Education and Outreach Manager

Hours and Pay: The Education Assistant works 8 hours per day, up to 40 hours per week, from May 25 – September 6, 2024. Weekend and holiday work is required. Part-time work may be available through October 14, 2024, contingent on funding availability. The Education Assistant is paid an hourly rate starting at $19.00 per hour. The Assistant is required to attend a paid, multi-day online training from May 14 – 17 and attend in-person training on the Paul Smith’s College campus during May 20 – 23.

Dorm style housing is available on the Paul Smith’s College campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with AWI staff and partners to plan, promote, implement, and evaluate education and outreach events.
  • Coordinate with AWI staff to deliver education and training to Watercraft Inspection Stewards throughout the summer season.
  • Contribute to AWI’s website and social media platforms.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to meet the mission of AWI.

Qualifications: Required

  • Work, coursework, or volunteer experience leading formal and informal education programs.
  • Proven interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • General understanding of the environmental or natural sciences
  • Ability to work weekends and some holidays.
  • Driver’s license and driving record acceptable to PSC insurance carrier and AWI, which will enable authorization to drive College-owned vehicles.

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Pursuing or obtained bachelor’s degree.
  • Interest in watershed education, environmental education, and community outreach
  • Experience working with the public, working in both fast-paced and slow-paced environments.
  • Experience with digital marketing and communications; website updates, social media, etc.
  • Involvement with organizing, planning, or facilitating events.
  • Familiarity with motor-boats, canoes, or kayaks.
