This opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about community development and environmental education, offering hands-on experience in the field. As a coordinator, you will have the chance to teach children and young people in nearby small towns, guiding them in implementing initiatives that support environmental conservation and community development.

Utilizing your creativity, excellent communication skills, and compassion, your role involves supporting, coordinating, and facilitating educational programs. This includes visiting local schools to deliver lessons that inspire children to actively participate in protecting the natural world. You will also contribute to planning and conducting engaging workshops both within schools and for groups visiting the sanctuary.

Taking a leading role in planning and delivering meaningful sessions, you will educate young learners on the threats to animals and their habitats, recycling, and sustainable living. Additionally, you can participate in language exchange programs and mentor young individuals finishing school, collaborating directly with the directors of nearby schools to plan and execute English curricula that aid in children’s academic development.

These lessons will serve as a valuable asset for the growth and development of children, teenagers, and adults, setting them on a path to realizing their full potential.

Tasks:

  • Plan, prepare, and run environmental education programs.
  • Assist with English education programs, including curriculum development, lesson planning, and documenting success and progress.
  • Support and mentor young individuals finishing school.
  • Participate in community-based conservation efforts such as river beach clean-ups and reforestation programs.
  • Teach classes to small groups of children, adolescents, and adults, encouraging critical thinking and questions to deepen their knowledge.
  • Support the teaching curricular plan.
  • Prepare materials and conduct classes with volunteers and other interns under your supervision.
  • Collaborate with the director, administration, and other staff in planning and implementing special events.
  • Conduct evaluations and academic progress reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the educational program.
  • Assist the Caretakers Team with basic animal care, cleaning, and general husbandry, some mornings each week (after coordinating the weekly activities).
  • Assist the Caretakers Team by giving lectures to conservation interns and volunteers about the Amazon and its wildlife.
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with education materials for posts and social media updates.

Requirements:

  • Minimum commitment of 6 months.
  • Experience in teaching or working within an education setting.
  • Passion for community development.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build connections with people.
  • Interest in environmental conservation.
  • Intermediate level of Spanish.
  • Personal laptop.
  • Self-motivated, independent worker with strong time management skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
